FAQ

What standards are your products held to?

We galvanize to ASTM123. Standard Specification for Zinc (Hot-Dip Galvanized) Coatings on Iron and Steel Products covers individual steel pieces as well as assemblies of various classes of material.

Steel is to be fabricated to the ASTM385 standard. Standard Practice for Providing High-Quality Zinc Coatings (Hot-Dip) provides details on steel selection and other design practices such as venting and draining, welding, etc. to ensure the best quality product after galvanizing.

HDG galvanizing must meet M1.11 WA DOT or military specifications.

We must meet AASHTO standards (American Association of State Highway and Transportation).

Spokane Galvanizing maintains and conforms to an in-house Quality Assurance Program.

What are the specifications of your kettle, processing tanks and crane?

Kettle - 32’ x 5’ x 9’ deep

Processing tanks -  30’ x 5’ x 6’ deep

Crane Capacity - 6,000 lbs

What kind of testing is done on the steel?

We test the venting and draining of the steel with a rod test before it goes through the shop.

The zinc and steam has to be able to escape from the steel.  We add holes where and when they are needed if the steel is not done to ASTM385.

We also can put plugs in the holes after galvanizing if the customer chooses.
